Office 2003 Contacts Missing
 

I had to re-install Outlook 2003 on my computer and now I cannot see my main
contacts list. I have five lists and the main one is empty. I hav3e old
copies of the Outlook.pst file but none of them show the addresses in the
contacts list, jus all of the other lists. By the way, I store my outlook.pst
file in My documents which is on a hard drive different from the operating
system and office software.
Can anyone tell me how to recover just the address book contacts without
also importing the old e-mail messages?

Post is too vague. You probably know what you mean by "I have 5 lists" but
none of us could. Reinstalling Outlook never touches your data (nor does it
ever solve anything). State what else you did and why.

When I open my address book I have five files listed: Contacts, ASGS,
Clients, MTTC and SeniorNet. All of my personal address were stored in the
"Contacts" file and the other four files contain address specific to specific
organizations I work with. I can read all of the files except "Contacts." I
have several (3-4) backup copies of old "Outlook.pst" files on my computer,
but I cannot read the "Contacts" file from any of these backups. Could this
be because the older files were created under Office XP? I'm now running
Office 2003 and trying to read these older files. Is there no way to separate
the address book from the e-mail messages, etc.? Addresses used to be stored
in a WAB file, but I haven't seen these files for several years.

There is no data in the address book view. What you see there is just a view
of the Contact Folders you have in your profile. State what those are. State
what you did to disconnect your address book view from your folders.

Office 2003 Contacts Missing
 

What you say is correct, but when I open the Contacts folder it is empty.
However, when I open the other folders under the address book they all
contain the addresses I have stored there. Only the Contacts folder is empty
and it is my main address book folder. All of these folder were created under
Offic XP, but I'm now trying to use Offic 2003. Could this be the problem?
My computer's system board died, so I transferred my My Documents HDD to a
different computer which also has Office 2003 installed. But when I linked
Outlook to my version of Outlook.pst to the newley installed HDD all of my
addresses in my Contacts folder appear to be missing.

That's not what I was asking. Forget your address book for now. I need you
to tell me what the actual folders show, not the address book view of them.
That view is corrupt. I want to make sure the actual data still exists.
It is not unusual for the Outlook Address Book to "lose track" of the
connection to its Contacts Folder when you move your PST incorrectly or
update your Outlook version or operating system. Use the following steps to
reset the connection. Note that in some instances you may actually have to
remove the Outlook Address Book completely from your Profile, close Outlook,
and then re-add it before you can get it to work.

Make sure the Contact folder is enabled as an email address book. Right
click the Contacts folder, choose Properties then Outlook Address Book. Is
the box to enable as email address book checked?
If this is grayed out...Go to Tools | Email Accounts, choose View or change
existing directories or address book. Is the Outlook Address Book present?
If it isn't listed, add it and close and restart Outlook. If it is listed,
then remove it and close then restart Outlook and repeat these steps to add
it.
