I have created & named folders to store email names & addresses in Outlook.
I have sorted them alphabetically by last name in the “email display as” column. But when I open them when sending email in “to:” they are not in alphabetical order. What do I need to do? -- Patrick |

The order is in alphabetical order by Full Name (ie. essentially by first
name). You cannot change this. "Patrick" wrote in message ... I have created & named folders to store email names & addresses in Outlook. Read one of the countless posts here that tell you how to sort the Outlook
Address Book view. Be sure to find one that matches your version. Since you did not post your version, we cannot answer you. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Patrick" wrote in message ... My version is Outlook 2007 (Office 2007). The names are sorted correctly in
the folders, but when I use the "To:" in sending email, they are listed randomly. If this is a common problem, please advise a search word to use in looking for "countless posts". First, you use a decent Search Engine, which means Google, not Microsoft:
http://groups.google.com/group/micro...ontacts/topics I entered "Sort Address Book" and got 2430 hits in 0.3 seconds. So now "countless" has become "counted." -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Patrick" wrote in message ... My version is Outlook 2007 (Office 2007). Not so. There are and always have been two options for sorting the Outlook
Address Book: 1. First, Last 2. File As... The latter almost invariably sorts by Last Name. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Castell" wrote in message ... Russ - I am not trying to pick a fight here. I meant what should I search

Russ is correct. To change the sort to File As go to Tools/Account

Never mind. I found the answer. But here's a philosophical question for you:
The address book is sorted by first names. Why? Have you ever alphabetized a list of names in any way other than by last names? Imagine if the telephone book was sorted in this manner. I do not understand Microsoft"s concept here. -- Patrick "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: What part of your question did I not answer? There's a lot not to understand about the settings and behaviours of
Outlook. Russ knows more than most of us have forgotten about this aspect of Outook!
