Can't send contact (list) as an attachment

Hi all,

I have a very odd situation, that I'll try to explain. I'm trying to
send Outlook Contact object information as attachments.

- If I try to send the Contact as an attachment to another Exchange user (in
the same Exchange Org.), it works just fine.
- If I try to send the Contact to any external (to Exchange) address the
attachment exists but is empy. Also the attachment icon is an envelope,
rather than the Contact icon.
- If I save the contact to disk it is saved as an outlook .MSG file. If I
then use hotmail or yahoo or the like to attach and send myself this Contact
back into the Exchange environment, it works just fine.

It appears as though Exchange won't let Contact objects outside its
confines. Has anyone seen this bevahiour before? Any idea what might be
going on?

Exchange 2003, Active Directory 2003, Outlook 2003 and 2007 (in
corporate mode) both behave the same way.

Any help or ideas, would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you're sending a Rich Text format message to the outside.
Instead, try attaching the contact as a vCard to a plain text or HTML
message.

Can't send contact (list) as an attachment

I have the same problem !!!
I had done an aditional task.
I enter in my contact list. I save to my disk one contact. It was saved as
".msg" file. If opent it , it was fine. I sent the file to my Hotmail
account, and I receive a file without extension, and it was broken. I sent
the same file to my gmail account and I received a noname
file......Conclusion Outlook 2003 when send a contact ( ".msg" type file)
broke the file....
The only bypass solution I find is to open each contact, in file menu save
it as ".vcf" file, and send the .vcf file...
It is easy for few contacts but I need to send more than 150
Any help or ideas, would be greatly appreciated

Can't send contact (list) as an attachment

Thanks Brian,

I had thought of that. I tried setting all my format defaults to both HTML
and Plain Text and restarted Outlook each time. None of it worked. If I sent
a single contact in VCF format it came though OK and can be immediately add
to my contacts. A List however came though as a flat text file even when
told to use VCF.

I also thought it had something to do with .MSG file format, but when saving
a true message as .MSG file it can be sent without difficulty. This problem
seems to be restricted to Contact and List objects.

An additional question: Is it Outlook or Exchange that is failing here?

Outlook can't handle multiple contacts within a single VCF file. Attach
each contact as its own VCF file. Alternatively, create a separate PST and
a Contacts folder within that PST. Copy the contacts you wish to send to
that new folder, close the PST in Outlook, close Outlook, then zip the PST.
Start Outlook and send the zip file. The recipient can save it, unzip it,
open the PST and simply copy the contacts in its folder to his or her own
Contacts folder.

I also need to send a contact list to other person who do not use outlook...
And he wish to receive the contacts as "vcf" files.
How can I generate one vcf file for each contact of my list ?
It has a lot of members... one-by-one???

Natively, yes - one by one. There are third-party tools you can find
(probably not free) that can export an entire contact folder as VCF files.
Google can find them.
