I'm changing computers and need to know how to export the e-mail addresses,
names, etc in my Outlook 2003 address book so I can put this info on another
computer's e-mail program. I'm not sure if the new computer will have Outlook
or Outlook Express. How do I export the info from Outlook 2003 to import on
another computer's address book? Thanks

Outlook has no address book. Exporting and importing are never the correct
way to transfer Outlook data. Correct methods are posted here daily. Feel
free to read them or tell us if you need us to post them yet again. Seems to
me that knowing what software you would be using is a pre-requisite to your
even troubling others with a question that you expect others to help you
with.

You can create a Comma Separated Value (*.CSV) file, for each contact
folder, in each mail profile you have in MS Outlook on the PC. Which can be
imported into several mail programs address book/contact folders. Now some
of the MS Outlook fields may not be able to import into these programs, or
you may need to rename or remap the fields to correspond with fields of the
new mail program. Also be aware that Distribution/Group Lists are not
transferable, and will have to be created manually in those programs, if the
feature is allowed.

1. Create a folder that you are going to use to move information to new PC.
For this example I will call it, "Outlook Contact Folder". Make sure that it
is located, in a place that you can easily find, such as Desktop or My
Documents.
2. Open MS Outlook Open Contact Folder.
3. Under FILE Export/Import Export to a file Select Comma Separated
(Windows) Select Browse Go to Outlook Contact Folder you created in Step
#1.
4. Type in a name that you can identify, especially if you have multiple
profiles in MS Outlook on that PC. You will need to create a separate *.CSV
file for each contact folder in each mail profile. Press OK
5. A *.CSV file should be created in the "Outlook Contact Folder". You can
right click the folder and open with the NotePad, WordPad, Word, Excel,
Access. I prefer using Excel or a spread sheet program, easier to look
through and make sure that everything was transferred correctly.

Remember you cannot use this method to copy/transfer distribution/group
lists, you will need to manually recreate them. Also you need to do this
procedure with each Contact folder in each Mail Profile that you have in MS
Outlook on the PC. This is addition to transfer process used when moving
Outlook Data (*.PST) files. Plus it provides another layer in your Backup of
important files and data process, in case something goes wrong.

I do acknowledge your expertise with this program, but what I have stated
also is a valid process, based upon numerous successes I have had using this
method personally.

My reply to johnnie2130's OP, was for the basic transferring of contact
information from MS Outlook, to other Mail programs, using a *.CSV file. He
mentioned he was not sure if he was going to use MS Outlook, Outlook
Express, an ISP/Mail service webmail interface's address book, or another
mail application.

This was stated in the first paragraph in my reply. But
this method can be used for moving contact information from Outlook to
Outlook, but it is not the preferred way. Also a *.CSV file is smaller in
size than a *.PST file, and can easily be sent attached to an email message,
if someone wanted to share contact information.

I did mention in the last paragraph, that using a *.CSV file for backup
and/or transfer of information:

I would not personally reference that web page, since it does say you can
use the
Import/Export Wizard feature for both importing and exporting contents of a
*.PST file. Unless you would state to use the "Restore manually" method, not
the Import/Export Wizard method.
