New Mail Message Locks Up Outlook

My client is having an issue where Outlook 2003 (SP2) locks up when he
tries to type a new email message. This doesn't have any set pattern,
it sometimes happens and sometimes doesn't.

Mail Recipient (as attachment) breaks Spell Check in Outlook

Also, just to add, only the red underlines highlighting spelling errors
no longer appear. Manually choosing to start spell check still works
properly.

I understand...the message format gets thrown off due to attaching a
file via Word. Has anyone found a way around this?
