I'm not sure how that solves the problem.

If I delete that week's instance of the event in its original timeslot, and
create a brand new, non-recurring appointement for the rescheduled time,...

to recurring appointments when you make a change) renders the recurring
appointment functionality virtually useless? ...

If I make a change to a recurring appointment in Outlook (for example change
the end date from "no end" to a specific date), I get a warning that all my
exceptions will be lost. It is not...
