Yes, you assume correctly and this is a valid remark and I carefully checked
that I was moving the message to the relevant folder and then re opening it
from this folder to reply to...

I am running Outlook 2007 12.0... SP1 and having that issue with the "In
folder other than the inbox, Save replies with original email".

Point to note , I am running Outlook 2007...

Hi Brian,

I suspect you mean uncheck all folders in outlook Send/Receive Setting for
Exchange account. I have unchecked all folders, I unchecked as well the Send
Mail items & receive Mail Items...

downloading choices grayed out. Then the downloading happens in the
background, or so I've been told.

This is what used to happen in the past, but this is not the case anymore.
