this feature/option does not exist anymore. It was discarded with Outlook
2003 or 2007 - I'm not sure.

I think "Share My Calendar" ist the right way. It shoud not send a snapshot
but the permission to view your calendar to the recipient.
If you right-click your calendar under "My Calendars"...

yes, this should mean, that there is one unread entry in your calendar.
You could right-click on the calendar-folder in "folder list" and choose
"Mark All as read".
Then it should...
