I am running Norton 2006 as supplied by my ISP. On further investigation I
find that the problem is not fixed. With Email scanning disabled I can
receive mail on any account now, however I cannot...

I have disabled email scanning and this does solve the problem. However
Norton is now unhappy and flags my anti-virus state as "requiring attention".
It would seem then that there is a conflict...

Not certain then if you have already tried taking the updates off with no
solution. I have just tried removing Norton completely, which I needed to do
anyway. Without Norton there is no problem...
