I followed your advice and since I was having the same problem with the
Recycle Bin I also posted in the XP group. There I got the suggestion to
bypass the Bin when deleting so I did that...

As far as I know I do not have a recovery program. Compacting is done
whenever a notice pops up saying it is going to do so, about every week or
two.
