Default Outlook 2003 Categories behaviour

Hello,

I'm trying to read existing categories from the registry. According to
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/olcat.asp the categories are stored
in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\O utlook
\Categories.

At first this key doesn't even exist. But when I use the Outlook Built
in category manager to add a category to the master list the whole
list suddenly appears in the registry and I can use it.

My questions:
- Does anyone know a way to simulate the behaviour, to add a category
in some other way than accessing the registry?
- Does someone know a way to access the "built in" masterlist (read)
in case the registry key doesn't exist yet?

Thanks in advance,
Tobias

The master list is hard-coded and there's no access to that. The registry
entry won't exist unless you add a category in the UI, not from code. The
only way to add a category using code that will go to the master list is by
creating that registry key if it does not exist and then populating it with
your custom entry. That MasterList value is a REG_BINARY and must be
populated with a byte array using Unicode.
