Default Getting all day event buttons and 1 hour events to appear in Calendar

Hi, I am using the 1 day events view and I understand from a manual
that I am reading that, I should be able to display all day event
buttons , as grey buttons at the top of the 1-day calendar field and
specific events displayed throughout the day on a white background
underneath these buttons.

Unfortunately, when I double click on the date and set up an all day
event - by filling in the subject line. Or right click on the body of
the day field and set up a specific time for an event it shows up
neither as a button or on the calendar schedule.

What am I doing wrong?

You don't set up an all-day event by filling in the subject line. You do it
by checking the "All day event" box. Alternatively, from the Day view,
double-click the date line at the very top of the calendar, that will open
an event with the "All day event" box already checked.
