THE PROBLEM:
Outlook automatically adds birthday reminders for Contacts. The reminder time/offset for these events cannot be set, except if you change the standard reminder offset value. As you know, this causes a reminder to fire off at the default reminder offset (which usually is 15 mins). Perhaps not a big problem on a PC, but have you thought about all the mobile phones now syncing with Outlook thanks to the wonderful ActiveSync and Windows Mobile OS? Many people leave their mobiles turned on even during nights, which means that the mobile starts it's birthday reminders at 23:45. The default calendar reminder sound on all Windows mobiles sounds for several minutes, in rising volume, so you're bond to wake up from it... Changing the default reminder offset by let's say 4 hours so that your mobile won't wake you in the middle of the night isn't a good solution, as it also affect all regular appointments. SOLUTION Make a new default offset (using Swedish Outlook here, so I don't know what it's called in English) for birthday reminders, and perhaps also for whole day events. ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. It shouldn't be necessary to have special plug-ins to handle basic
functionality like this. It should be built into Outlook... "Ricardo Silva [Outlook MVP]" wrote: I have a solution too, its cheap 10 usd: http://www.rsoutlook.com/us/prods/prod04.html -- Ricardo Silva [Outlook MVP] Add-ins for Microsoft(c) Outlook(c) http://www.rsoutlook.com/us/products.html |

I totally agree and would like to add that this is a problem for
all-day-events in general. There should be one default reminder setting for for normal events and another for all-day-events. By the way, has nothing happened yet in this matter? I don't want to buy anything. "Mats Bjur" wrote: THE PROBLEM: Outlook automatically adds birthday reminders for Contacts.
