Default Birthdays entered in Contacts

When I enter birthdays in the contact cards, they always appear at recurring
events spanning 2 days in the month view of the calendar. I can open the
series and reset the duration to one day, which pulls it back to one day but
upon closing/reopening outlook, all they all go back to 2 days. It seems
like a bug in Outlook. Any suggestions/fixes or am I just doing something
wrong?
