Default Meeting requests sent from me to a DL I am on - Outlook 2007

I am using Outlook 2007 to send a meeting request to a distribution list I am
on. In my calendar, the meeting request is changed to an appointment
(considers me an attendee and not the organizer). It does not allow me to
make any changes or cancellations to the meeting request since it is
essentially gone. I can't propose a new time as a attendee, when I receive
the proposal the "accept" and "view" buttons are grayed out.
