Default Cannot set appointment

I have outlook and I am new to the program and when I go to the
calendar and just pick anytime of anyday, it automatically make the
note go to the exact time of day that it is and if I go to a different day,
say a week out, it will make it appear on todays date and time. Whats wrong???
