Default how do I import the categories branch of registry?

hi,

I'm using MS Outlook 2003 sp2 on XP. I often move my .pst file from my main
'puter to the laptop, it works great thanks to the MVPs advice on this list.
However I never get my custom calendar categories, and have to manually add
them. I found the instructions on http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/olcat.asp
But I don't know what how to follow these particular instructions "you'll
have to change the version number first"
(see below.)

To back up the Master Category List in Outlook 2003:

1. Run Regedit and go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\O utlook and select the
Categories key.
2. Choose Registry | Export Registry File to make a copy of the
Categories branch of the registry. Note that this list is in Unicode encoding
and is not compatible with versions other than Outlook 2002.

To use any of these methods to move categories to another computer using a
compatible version of Outlook, you'll need to change the version number in
the key before importing.

BTW, I can comment on the why people want categories. The slipstick.com
author says:
"I'm convinced that many people worry too much about keeping the Master
Category List consistent from user to user, when what they really want is to
keep the categorization of the items themselves consistent. It is critical to
remember that the category set on an individual item is totally independent
of the user's Master Category List."
I realize that thankfully individual items retain their unique categories,
but when I enter a new calendar item and want to assign it to one of my
custom categories, I can't because the categories haven't transferred with
the calendar in the .pst file. I have to manually add each category.

So is it true this is not a problem in Outlook 2007 because the calendar
categories reside in the .pst file?

Thanks in advance for advice!
Carmen

#1 If you're running OL 03 on both machines, you don't need to change the
*.reg file.

#2 That's true.
