Default outlook says it cannot open my calendar

when I open my email on outlook I get a pop up notice that "outlook cannot
open calendar" When I get reminders that occured proir to this message it
states "cannot turn off the reminder, you may be reminded again. Cannot open
the free/busy information"

why is this happening?
