Default New to Outlook

Just purchased office with Word & Outlook 2007. Had trouble initially
getting Outlook running - kept asking for a password and finally I created a
new profile and was able to get it working.

Then, I decided to try the calendar. Entered a couple of appointments and a
pop-up window came up asking for my username (which was already there) and
password.

First question - is this normal?

Second question - is there a way to password-protect Outlook? I use s
shared computer and would like to keep my email private, if possible.

Third question - someone told me to use Word as the "Email editor." Why
would I need to do this? Where do I find settins for this?

Default New to Outlook

Password protect your .pst file (all contents) by right clicking on the root of your mailbox, select Properties, then Advanced. Set your password from there and DON'T FORGET IT!!! And remember, once you open Outlook, anyone can read your mails. You must close it when you leave the computer or use a password protected screensaver.

You cannot use Word as your editor in Outlook 2007 as it is already using a small stub of Word for editing. That advice (sometimes good) applied to older versions of Outlook/Office.

Thanks for all the help. Seems that for now it'd be better for me not to use
Outlook as others have access to my computer. If I set a password for .pst
files there's a chance I really would forget it!

Thanks, too, for the tip about checking with Verizon (separate post). I
have double-checked all my info and it was entered correctly; however, the
more I think about it, the more I think it'd be better for me to wait a while
before implementing full use of Outlook.

As it's presumably your computer, set up separate Windows User accounts for
the other users.......
