I've searched the universe for a way to do the following efficiently
(fewest keystrokes): 1. Select text from within a webpage in Firefox 2. Right-click on the selected text to get a context menu box with an additional function: "Open New Calendar Event" 3. Click on "Open New Calendar Event" 4. A Firefox extension/add-on opens a new Outlook calendar event with the selected text pasted into the "notes" area and the other fields defaulted. 5. I can then enter the other information (date and time) manually. Is anyone aware of a way to do this or available software? Thanks |

is that what you are doing now and want fewer steps or what you'd like to
do? have you checked the FF extensions library? Outlook supports the following - still several steps, but it works with any program that supports copy (not just FF). copy the text from FF or other program open the outlook calendar module. if you use the month view or navigation calendars, click on the desired appointment date if you use the day or week view, you can select the correct time period Ctrl+V to paste. A new appointment opens - if you clicked on a date first, the date field is filled in and it defaults to the start of your work day. If you are working with programs that support DDE, you only need to drag and drop on the calendar icon (either in the folder list or the icon on the nav bar) to create a new calendar event with the content you're dragging. I know if the ie tab extension (or maybe its the clip extension - i have both) is installed you can definitely drag from FF to Outlook - not sure if it works on plain vanilla FF. -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Author, Teach Yourself Outlook 2003 in 24 Hours Need Help with Common Tasks? http://www.outlook-tips.net/beginner/ Outlook 2007: http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2007/ Outlook Tips by email: Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com Subscribe to Exchange Messaging Outlook newsletter: "Richard" None wrote in message ... Thank you for your prompt and informative response!
The steps I outlined were what I felt were "ideal" in terms of the functionality I desire. I did check for an existing Firefox extension first and found nothing. I suspect FF fans don't overlap as much with Outlook fans as I would like. ![]() The solution you proposed to drag text selected in Firefox and dropping it onto a date in the Calendar view of Outlook works pretty well, perhaps 90% of my objective. Thanks for that suggestion. The only disadvantage to it is that the Outlook window with a calendar view and the FF browswer window must be simultaneously visible, at least partially. I ordinarily am using a laptop with limited screen size and usually have Outlook minimized in the "Today" view which does not show the three month calendar. I have worked out an arrangement of windows (maximize Outlook) and toggle FF from fullscreen to a partial screen which exposes the three month calendar before I select the text. Then I can drag the selected text and drop it onto the date I desire which opens a partially filled out Calendar Event with the text pasted into the note area. Thanks again! Thanks again! That tip resolves the screen real estate issue neatly.
You've been a wonderful help. Perhaps you have a resolution for this last "glitch"? When I drop the selected text on a specific date displayed on the three month calendar on the left side of the Calendar View, it opens a New Event but the "Start time" and "End time" date plugged in the New Event is whatever date was last "selected", not the date on which the text was dropped nor even the current date. BTW, I am using Outlook 2003 at the moment. Thanks much!
