Default past dates on calendar

Is there a way to black out, or color past days on my calendar? My eyes
strain to find today's date when I look at the monthly view. I would like the
calendar to do this automatically. It is no good if I have to color the days
myself.

Today is the day that is a different shade of color than all the rest.
