Default how do i get an item into my calendar folder

I cannot set a reminder for my main calendar. The message says "cannot set
reminder because this item is not in your calendar or tasks folders."
I have Outlook 2003. How do I get it into my calendar folder? When I open
outlook and the email screen comes on, if I click on the calendar icon down
at the bottom of the navigation pane, there is a list of 4 calendars. My
"MAIN CALENDER'' does not open as the default, if that's of any interest.
