Default reminders will not go away

All of myrecurring events (ie. birthdays, weekly appointments, etc.) in
Outlook 2007 will not clear. I hit dismiss all and they do not go away. I
have tried to use the cleanreminders switch and that made it so they come
back once even when I haven't reopened outlook. I also tried to change a
couple of thereminders to make them only effective after today's date, but
the long overdue reminder still comes back
