Default Outlook calendar appointment arrives as a message to recipient

An outlook calendar appointment attached to an email arrives at the
recipients inbox as a message. This occurs in Outlook 2007 with all updates
running under Win XP Pro, Win 7 RC and Win 7. Exchange server is not
involved; this occurs during the transmission of a simple email from point A
to point B. Any assistance will be appreciated regarding a solution.

It sounds like the TNEF encoding is being removed. The sender needs to
double click on the recipients name in the To field and verify its set to
use RTF. If either side is scanning mail with a virus scanner the TNEF part
could be removed or corrupted.

Thanks for the suggestion; however we experienced no change by forcing RTF or HTML. Both the firewall and virus scanner (AVG Internet Security) were neutralized during the tests.

You need to uninstall AVG and reinstall it without the Outlook integration.
It's known to cause issues, even when its turned off.
