Default opening/using old dbx files

I recently found an old backup which, to my surprise, included many old OE
files...I can only assume from reading the names, that it's all the folders
from an earlier version of OE. I should point out that these files are not
from a backup done with any OE utilities but a simple copy of my old c and
d drives. As a later crash caused me to lose--or so I thought at the
time--many old messages and folders and I haven't thought about them since.
Obviously, if there's a way, I'd like to restore them. Looking at Inside OE
I can only find references to files which have been stored or backup from
OE. Is there a way to open or copy or in some way get to the information in
these dbx files?

Thanks,
Tim

Copy the dbx files to your HDD. Make sure Folders.dbx is included. Select
all the files | Right Click | Properties and remove the Read Only attribute.

You should be able to File | Import | Messages | Microsoft Outlook Express 6
| Import mail from an OE store directory and point to the folder with the
files.

To avoid any overwriting of your current messages, create a new identity and
import them there. You can rename folders at a later time and then move them
into your current identity if you wish, but archiving messages in a separate
identity is a good idea anyway.

Default opening/using old dbx files

Hi Tim,

The easiest way would be to import the files. This requires the DBX files
for the folders and the file, Folders.dbx, for the process to work. Point to
the current location of folder holding the old DBX files when importing. The
old files will be merged with the ones for folders with the same name, such
as Inbox. To avoid mixing the files they could be imported into a new OE
identity.

Other means to restore the files exist if the import process does not work.

I thought it was something that simple but I just couldn't remember or find
any reference to it. Worked perfectly...thanks.
