Default Lag time going from folder to folder

I just got a new PC - Dell 310 and it seems like when I switch between
folders - it takes longer than my old PC. Any ideas?

I thought with a faster processor and more RAM it would be faster. I called
Dell and they had no ideas......

Thanks in advance.

Default Lag time going from folder to folder

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm.

- Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if
Automatic Compacting is taking place (WinXP SP2 only).

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

I am using McAfee (normally use Norton)-any idea where I can disable email
scanning? Nothing is jumping out at me saying it does that.
I am not archiving folders - I am using Windows XP Media Center - Would XP
Pro be better?

Default Lag time going from folder to folder

I neglected to mention I am using windows XP media edition. I checked my
folders.dbx file & it's 73kb. Could that astill be the culprit? Also when
looking at those files, I noticed so other .dbx folders that mus have
archived at one time or soemthing but I am no longer using them now. Can I
delete those files? I transfer mail from my old PC to my new one.
Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks

I doubt it. Mine is 15,554 KB.
Did you look at Tom's site (the link I gave you)?

Move everything out of the default folders to user created folders and then
click File | Folder | Compact All.
Don't let folders get over 100 MB.

You're probably going to have to just search the McAfee settings yourself.
I doubt if any of the regular posters here use McAfee.

Click on the red M by the clock to open the program. Click on VirusScan and
look around there. I don't remember the exact name on the Icon you need to
click, but it's in that area.
