I just got a picture sent to me that is displayed in one way when I open it,
but when I saved it to a folder the picture has far more detail to it then when I pull it into any viewer. It appears as though the picture was cropped at the lower end and when I open the folder I see the whole picture but when I double click on it I only see a partial of what appears to be the original. Can anyone tell me what has happened? Can I actually get an original view after a pic is cropped but just can't display it ? This is from an e-mail of a Jpeg and in the properties it shows a difference of about 1500 K between the "size" and the "size on disk" Thanks for any input |

Hi Tilton Family,
Windows will add some size to the file to store it on the hard drive. I don't think this is pertinent to your issue. What program are you using to view the picture when double-clicking to open? Can the picture be viewed in its entirety when opened in Internet Explorer or a graphics app -- even MS Paint? Has the picture actually been cropped, or does it only appear that way? You should be able to see the picture as shown in a thumbnail view without it being "cropped" when opened. Sometimes scrolling is necessary. One problem we have is this is not likely an OE issue. -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MS-MVP - Outlook Express Lynnwood, WA * "The Tilton Family" wrote in message ... Did you ask the sender what program they used to edit it? Possibly it's
not your run of the mill Jpeg. It might not even be a true JPG. Some image editors/viewers won't worry about the file extension but will look at the internals of a file to determine the real image type. And there are advanced file formats that allow multiple images in a single file including a thumb nail verses the real image. As for size difference, the size on disk is the file size. JPG files, as well as GIF, have internal compression. The other size is how much RAM it takes to hold the uncompressed image in viewable format. This is typically much larger than the file size. If you like, you can e-mail the image to me and I'll take a look at it. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "The Tilton Family" wrote in message ...
