Default POP3 Server name Corrupt

I am helping a driend with his new Dell computer. He can not get Email. If
I follow:
Toolsaccountsmailpropertiesservers
The POP3 sever name keeps being changed to 127.0.0.1 instead of
"xxxconnect.net"
I have been told this is a known problem with Norton AV and that I should
disable scanning incoming and outgoing mail, BUT, we are using McAfee AV,
which came installed.
I disabled scanning but same problem.
Suggestions please.

An anti-spam program can cause this as well as e-mail scanning. FYI, my last
computer came with McAfee installed and the first thing I did was to remove
it.

I use, and recommend, AVG Free:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5
or:
http://www.grisoft.com/doc/40/lng/ww

When prompted, choose Custom Installation and *uncheck* e-mail scanning when
you see the option.

Norton, and McAfee, products are not Outlook Express friendly, and I don't
know of any OE-MVP that would recommend using them.
