I get an error message using Outlook Express 6 in Windows
XP when I click on Create New Message which says there was an error openning this message. When i click the address book i get "unable to open address book. Address book may not be installed correctly" I can receive mail but thats about all i can do. Worked fine until the other day. Seems like something is corrupted. How do you go about repairing, reinstalling Outlook Express 6? |

By chance are you using Norton Internet Security 2006? There are some posts
for this already posted but not resolved. ![]() This is due to the fact that Windows Update #911567 hosed OE6! I get the same issues you talked about. I had to reinstall OE 6 to fix this. When I redo the patch, OE 6 does the same thing. ![]() So for now, do NOT install that patch, and do NOT use OE6 for now I guess. I was trying to shoot a e-mail about this to MS, but they want to charge $35 for assistance with this? I think not. Even though they say "There is no charge for support calls that are associated with security updates." They just don't tell you how to contact support without first asking for $35. Rubbish. MS is aware of this problem. Now, we can only wait. FYI, uninstalling the
patch via the Control Panel is all you needed to do. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Dan" wrote in message ... This is due to the fact that Windows Update #911567 hosed OE6! Too bad I do not have an option to unintstall the patch in the Control Panel
add/remove programs. So what I did was the only fix. "Bruce Hagen" wrote: MS is aware of this problem. Now, we can only wait. You don't have a checkbox at the top of Add/Remove that says Show Updates?

For others needing to uninstall, use control panel and be sure to check

Uninstall worked for me too!!
Thanks much for being the guinea pig for testing the "uninstall" option... Had error message that uninstall also may impact other security updates so was hesitant. Then saw your and others messages on uninstall worked, and it worked for me too... This fix apparently deleted the WAB file extension, i.e. the entire address book... Not even in the recycle bin or with a *.WA~ backup extension, totally gone... Very malicious software fix. For others needing to uninstall, use control panel and be sure to check "show updates" at the top then uninstall #911567 Works fine now, although contacts did not appear in OE layout view as updated after uninstall, so to fix use "View" "Layout" and check Address box. Thanks again for your help. Bruce Hagen wrote: MS is aware of this problem. Now, we can only wait.
