I posted this earlier, then added stuff as it occurred to me, and then
thoroughly confused myself as well as anyone else that might be reading my entries. I'm gonna start again and see if I can do a better job of asking for help. I use XP Home. My browser (ie6) seems to work perfectly as long as the next link is brought up on the same instance/window. However, links that bring up a new window stay open for a second or less -- displaying the header of the new page -- and then simply disappear. No error message or any other indication. Just briefly flashed and then gone. If I right-click on the link and then click on "Open in new window" it opens in a new window perfectly. Or, if I paste the link into the current instance it will open perfectly as well. It's just when I left-click on a link that then tries to open the link in a new window itself. The Advanced Setting "Reuse windows when launching shortcuts" seems to have no effect on it -- in fact, I can't see any effect that this setting has on anything. Can anyone help with this or at least point me in a direction that might help me resolve it? Thanks in advance, Howard |

Hi,
Check the settings of any third-party security, privacy, ad-blocking programs (or toolbars) that are installed. One of them is probably blocking the new window. This sounds, specifically, like the work of Ad-aware Pro/Plus- the "Block pop-ups" feature (of Ad-watch.) It sometimes allows a window to open momentarily before closing it. Hope this helps, Don [MS MVP- IE] "Linda Woodard" ll_woodard[at]msn.com wrote in message ... Yes! I have this "very occasionally" due to my 3rd party popup blocker and
anti spyware programs. -- Regards, Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User Quote from George Ankner: If you knew as much as you think you know, You would realize that you don't know what you thought you knew! I had this problem and uninstalling the yahoo toolbar allowed it to work
again. Previously it worked with the yahoo toolbar installed, so not sure what changed that created the problem. I do not use the yahoo toolbar so not a problem, just a perplexing issue.
