I have exceeded the soft quota.
Files have been deleted, mainly with attachments, but I still cannot create new messages. There is a pop up message that suggests reinstalling OE. I hope not. Help! |

Create a new identity and see if you can create messages there. (File |
Identity | Add New Identity). If all is well, import what messages you can. For the missing folders, you will need one of these tools. If the messages were lost due to compacting, get DBXpress and run it in disk mode. DBXtract: http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspx DBXpress: {much faster for large files} http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/Default.aspx Tip: Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible. After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}. And backup often to avoid the need to extract messages. The new identity did not work. I get the same message as before when trying
to create a new message "There was an error opening this message. An error has occurred." The same message appears when I try to open the messages I have "saved as" in My documents. I think I'm going to pass this to someone else. You may have to reinstall
IE/OE, which isn't so bad, but I'd rather see another opinion first. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "bray" wrote in message ... I am unable to access the address book as well.
