A few days ago Outlook Express refused to work properly (not opening
mail nor create nor send mail & address book would not open- it still
received though).
I went to MS OE support centre & the articles there told me to
reinstall it .I use XP and OE is present with IE. I tried all methods
given for removing & reinstalling over the last few days with no effect
and have spent/wasted a lot of time on this! I posted on another site
for help but only received the same advice about reinstalling. I was
very frustrated having spent days trying to fix this.
Then this morning I stumbled across email from a MS OE user group
(particularly Bruce Hagen MS MVP?) that advised the MS security update
911567 had caused others this problem & that removing this security
update simply via control panel restored OE function. I tried it and it
worked!

I have since found this site and believe others may have suffered with
this also.If you are suffering with a malfunctioning OE then try
uninstalling this security update as this does restore function!

I hope if I get any further problems with any other MS products or
issues I may get advice here now. I did not have a backup of address
book to hand so I think I will try & back that up now in case of any
further problems (can one do a backup of OE also?).
