The April 2006 patch for the Windows Address Book (or one of the related
patches) has left me unable to open any WAB file; I am prompted to reinstall Outlook Express. This is definitely a file related issue because I restored my registry to before the patch and it was still broken. A Sytem Restore to April 16th (before the patch) did fix it; but, the update reinstalled last night and it is broken again. The system is running XP Pro SP2 with all prior updates applied and has no Spware, Trojan, Worm, or Virus issues. Somebody didn't test thoroughly enough, guys! How do I fix it? |

Uninstalling the patch will fix the problem; I know it cause a Sytem Restore
did yesterday and I have changed my setting to notify before installing now. The note though, is that 911567, for me, completely broke the Address Book and I am prompted to reinstall Outlook Express if I try to open any WAB file. And, because the Address Book is broken, I can't send anything. So, I guess I'll have to live with a security vulnerability in order to have OE work. |

I have the EXACT same issue. I restored my system to an earlier date and the
address book is still corrupt. Plus, the security update KB911567. Any ideas? Thanks, Vincenzo..but I restored back to before the sec update and still had
the error. I fixed it by renaming my .wab file a new name. I tried that solution 4 times yesterday and it didn't work. Today's my lucky day. Thx. I hate to add insult to injury; but, I just had a client who's system was
basically rendered inoperable by KB 908531 (it is one of the 4 updates for April 2006) With it installed, Explorer was crashing all over the place and he couldn't save files in Word or extract attachments in Outlook. Uninstalling it fixed his problem. His system, BTW, is a 2006 Fujitsu Lifebook with tablet functionality. |
