signatures in e-mail

OE6. I have defined a signature as a file in tools-options-signatures. However when I wish to add it into a message the signatures button in Add is greyed out. Even with a text signature "add-signature" is greyed out. Selecting "add-signature to all messages" in OE options adds a text signature to all messages but not a signature from a file. In neither case is the "add-signature" button available in the message add menu. How do I correct this problem so that I can selectively add a text or file signature to all or selected messages? Thanks. Click on Message pane and see if it doesn't work then. Alias
