Default NewsGroup Authenication Error

I am have a problem accessing my ISP newsgroups. I am getting an "Error 480
Authentication Required". I have checked with my ISP and everything is ok on
their end. The only thing that has changed is I purchased a new computer and
have a ninety day trial of Mcafee Security Suite. Previously I was using
Zone Alarm and Norton Antivirus.

Do anyone have any ideas where the problem may be?

Does the problem go away if you uninstall the McAffee trial? If so, then it
should be obvious what to do. If you continue to have a problem with
McAffee installed, they do provide forums for support and that's where you
should be asking the question.

Jim,

I am also working with Mcafee on this issue. I also have another dialup ISP
and I can authenticate to their newsgroups.I have turned off the Mcafe
Firewall and got the same results. I was just wondering what Outlook Express
sends to ISP's for Authentication so I could check. The 480 error must be a
OE error and there must be some troubleshooting for it. I also searched the
Microsoft FAQ with no success.

Thanks,

Don

I tried that but no log file was created. I even did a search of the hd with
no success.

Thanks anyway,

Make certain every last bit of Norton is gone (merely uninstalling it via
Add/Remove Programs) usually doesn't do a very good job.

Look at Tools, Accounts, News, Property Server. You need to specify
that This Server Requires Me to Log In. And you need to fill account
name and password. Most likely this is the same as your ISP log in.
