i tried to backup my email messages going through
ToolsOptionsMaintenanceStore Folder. I accidentally changed file location to thumb drive instead of copying it there. I tried putting them back to C:\ but could not remember original file. first i got blank messages when i opened them in inbox. i moved them again to what i thought was right folder and now outlook express will not open at all. i get error message that says "Application unable to open OE message store. computer may be out of memory or disk is full." is there a fix for this without doing a reinstall. i would like to recover my messages if possible. thanks. please email me if need further information. -- toy |

OE may not be installed correctly." From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/directdb.htm Errors in DIRECTDB.DLL or MSOE.DLL generally indicate corruption in the message store. Start by moving Folders.dbx to an empty Windows folder (with OE closed). Note: the DBX files are hidden in Win2K, WinXP and Win2K3. You will lose your folder hierarchy and the lists of newsgroups on the news servers, but it might get you into OE. If that doesn't do it then move all of the DBX files to the same folder as Folders.dbx (again with OE closed). You should now get into OE. Try importing the messages from the folder you moved the DBX files to. If you can't, you can use this tool to extract the messages: DBXtract ($5): http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/ Note: It can take a long time (days with really large folders). The messages can then be dragged from the Windows folder back into a folder in an open instance of OE. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM Please respond in Newsgroup. A search including Hidden Files and Folders would have answered your
question, but: Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then StartRunCtrl+V will put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer. In Windows XP, 2K & 3K, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options | View. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "ttago" wrote in message ... just so i fully understand. where should i create the empty folder to move
dbx files to? not sure if this is right but files/folders.dbx are in C:\Documents and Settings/Owner/Local Settings/Applications Data/Identities/{0E5ADBBD-B7D8-4FED-BF96-B7F67D542ECA}/Microsoft/Outlook Express. Is this right? There are 6 other folders. Should I move all 7 of the Folders.dbx? You only need to move the folders for the problem identity, but usuallymoving Folders.dbx will solve the problem. If it does, OE will have created a new Folders.dbx and you can delete the one you moved. It is only useful if you have to also move the other folders and then import messages from the moved folders. C:\Documents and Settings/Owner/Local Settings/Applications Data/Identities/{0E5ADBBD-B7D8-4FED-BF96-B7F67D542ECA}/Microsoft/Outlook Express can only contain one file named Folders dbx -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM Please respond in Newsgroup.
