Can someone please help me. When a friend of mine sends an attachment in an
email & I open it it looks like this

ÐÏ *¡± á þÿ þÿÿÿ

ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿýÿÿÿ O þÿÿÿþÿÿÿ

We are to guess at what is the filename - with extension - of the
attached file? If the file isn't corrupted then my guess is that you
simply don't have the application installed to support the format used
within the file. Go loot at http://filext.com to which app you need
depending on the extension of the attached file.

All of you thanks but still unable to read. The file type is .pub. I know
she uses Microsoft publisher.
So now what do I do? I only have Office'97. Can I fix?

Then tell your sender to convert the Publisher file to some other format
that you can read. Why do you need .pub files since you obviously don't
have the software to utilize them? You don't have an application that
view Publisher files, so tell the sender to stop bothering to send them
to you. Until you get Publisher, those attachments are just junk in
your mailbox.

If she's sending to you using MS Outlook, ask her to send to you only using
Plain Text, especially is there's an attachment.

That typically means that you are using the wrong program to open the
attachment. I'm guessing that you are using a word processor (e.g.
Notepad, WordPad, Word) to open an image or media file.

See the Identifying Attachment File Types and Setting File Associations
section of
