Default OE compacting

Perhaps I should have mentioned that I do compact regularly (after
off-lining). Likewise I also copy my email partition to another one
immediately before compacting.
My request was just about getting rid of the reminder which for some reason
comes up every time (even after I have just finished compacating).
Thanks.

Compacting is a helpful function that consolidates your email messages and
news posts to free up space on your hard disk. Windows automatically
offers
to do this every 100th time (I believe) you close Outlook Express, or you
can do it manually at any time. As Martha Stewart likes to say "This is a
good thing."

For more information on compacting, see he

Every time I close down OE I get the following message:
"Outlook Express

! To free up disk space, Outlook express can compact messages. This may

take
up to a few minutes.

OK Cancel"

I have searched through tools and accounts to try and find reference to
it
without success.

Help please to get rid.

Thanks

You can't get rid of it. But as I stated in my original reply, and as Alias
has reiterated, if you use OETool to compact, it will reset the counter to
zero. So if you compact more often than 100 closings, you *won't* see the
prompt again.

Or you can manually go into the Registry and set the value to 0.

Default OE compacting

I use IE SP1 and do not get this message. Also I do not have *Compact Check
Count* in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{GUID for
Identity}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0.
Where should I create the custom folders? can I create them as subfolders in
my Inbox or do I have to create them under "Local Folders"?
Thanks

That's because this "feature" only appeared with SP2.

Local Folders. Leave the default folders alone. You can also make sub
folders to your created folders.
