When I try to open a hyperlink in my email by clicking on the link, it will
not open. The only way I can open it is to hold down the control button and
click on the link. I could open the links until about a week ago. I have
not changes anything that I know of. Any help, thanks.

If nothing happens when you click a link:
Open Windows Explorer.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to {NONE} URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
(Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the
double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.

Hello,
I am wondering something about this. The computer is running McAfee
Anti-virus and Spamkiller. Could the running of Spamkiller be partly the
cause? Also, the computer does not have Spybot on it.

Thank you so much!

Is your question about links also? Did you try the fix I gave to Sonnyc33?
That said, McAfee can cause numerous problems with OE, but I'm not sure
about this one.

That indicates that you have pop-up blocker running. It's considering
the opening of a web page from a link as a pop-up.

Holding down the Ctrl key is a temporary override.

Check the program settings. You may be able to adjust the settings so
that it isn't so aggressive in blocking what it considers pop-ups.

Thank you for responding so fast! I have not tried the fix yet, because I
can't get to the computer right now. I just know that Spamkiller is set up
on the computer, and am wondering if that could be part of the cause too. I
hate to go over to my cliet's house with just one possible fix if there is
another possible problem too! When I go over, I am also going to recommend
that the computer should have spyware on it too.
Thank you for your help!

work, I will check in Spamkiller. Then add Adaware and Spybot. This should
do it!
Thank you so much!

I did exactly as you said but changed nothing. Everything was exactly as you
had indicated. The clicking on the link now works. Thank you so much.

Again, I go through the procedure that you gave and it solves the problem but
after I closed my computer down and restarted it, the same thing happens
again. It will not open the link without holding down the control button and
clicking on the link.

Did you see Mike's reply? He suggested that a pop-up blocker may be the
cause. Disable any you may have.

You can also try reregistering these .dlls:

Start Run type, or Copy/Paste, these in one at a time and try again.
(Note the space in each command).

regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 urlmon.dll

In IE, go to: ToolsInternet OptionsPrograms. Click: Reset Web
Settings - (uncheck box for homepage) - Click Yes.
