Is it possible to move all the files from win98 Windows\application
data\Identities\etc to A new PC with XP? Would the OEQBlite program do the trick? If possible what would be the procedure? Thanks in advance Joe Calderone, Don't Force it, Use a bigger Hammer. |

Thanks in advance Joe Calderone, Don't Force it, Use a bigger Hammer. You don't need any other software to do this. Just copy the files to the appropriate folder on the new machine. It appears you know how to identify that folder already, but if not, click on Tools, Options, Maintenance, and then the "Store Folder" button. You'll see the full path to the data folder there. This whole process is no different than doing a backup. This next idea is also worth considering. If I recall, I read about it in this newsgroup. It may be better to copy the old files to a temporary folder on the new machine, and then use OE's import feature (File, Import, Messages) to bring the messages into the new OE installation. The reasoning is that OE folders (Inbox, etc) can become flaky for various reasons, and begin exhibiting nasty symptoms. You may not have had this happen yet, but tomorrow could be the day. So, by importing all the data into the new OE installation, you're in effect rebuilding the data, rather than sticking it in place with all its warts. Whichever way you choose, be sure to keep A SEPARATE COPY of the old files until you're positive that everything's working according to plan. For me, this means at least two weeks. And, forget trying to bring over newsgroup messages. It doesn't work. There's a long and involved way to make it happen, but it's easier to just make a written list of the groups you participate in, and re-subscribe to them manually. |

Thanks in advance Joe Calderone, Don't Force it, Use a bigger Hammer. I just accomplished this a week ago. I set up both computers on the LAN. I mapped a drive on the XP computer to the MSOE message store folder on the old computer. It must be done with a mapped drive; a shared network folder won't work. I then pointed the message import wizard to the message store location on the network drive, and let it run. BTW, I also got rid of the default MSOE Identity at the start. I created a new Identity, switched to the new Identity, then deleted the original default Main Identity. Also, I did not populate the new Identity with account information through the Wizard. I exported all the accounts from the old computer as .iaf files, and then imported those into the new Identity on the new computer. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

You want to move the email files and import. http://www.insideoutlookexpress.com/backup/simple.htm -- Ron Sommer |

For 5 years, I copied my OE files from my desktop to my laptop several times a week. The only software I needed was PCAnywhere, a "file mover", but it could've been done with a floppy disk, CD, or other media. Forget software. |
