Default OE6 attachments CAN be opend ?

Hi all

In OE6 I thought that if you had the two boxes on the oprions-secuirty tab
checked to say don't open possible virus attachments and block images/extern
content you could not open ANY attachments ? You just got the yellow bar to
say they have been removed.

It's all working fine on my PC (ie I can open attachments) but a friend was
having attachment problems and when I checked my settings I was surprized to
see them checked AND still be able to open all attachments etc ?

Is this because I have McAfee installed and it is 'telling' OE6 that the
attachments are OK ? if I unistalled it would it suddle start blocking them
all ?

Thanks in advance

Steve

Thanks for your reply

I've tried turning off the AV scanning and can still open the orig email the
has a jpg attachment. I've checked at ticked the JPG file type in the
control panel folder options but this seems to make no difference ?

Thanks

Andrew

That setting only blocks attachments "that could potentially be a
virus". That doesn't include JPG.

Since you posted with XP SP2, see:
Description of how the Attachment Manager works in Windows XP Service
Pack 2
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=883260

Under SP1, you could select which file types OE considers dangerous.

With SP2, you could change some file types from low risk to medium risk
by changing the default application for them. But medium risk
attachments can still be opened, you just get a warning prompt.
