Well I guess the subject line says it all, to repeat:
The new mail sound in OE6 is broke. I have already tried the following: - In OE6, ToolsOptions I have checked the box "Play sound when new messages arrive" - In XP SP2 Control PanelSounds I have checked that there is a sound assigned to WindowsNew Mail Notification. - I have also tried using a different *.wav file - *.wav files are NOT muted in volume settings, I can playback *.wav files manually Does anyone have any ideas apart from those mentioned above?! Thanks, Sandy www.sandydoull.com |

Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default Main
Identity. Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity (File Identities Add new identity). Assuming all is well, import messages from the old Identity before deleting it (File Identities Manage Identities). To avoid such corruption in futu - Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local folders created for this purpose. - Empty Deleted Items folder daily. - Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm. - Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting is taking place (WinXP SP2 only). - Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Shell/User, Security), Aumha.org VSOP, DTS-L.org Sandy wrote: Well I guess the subject line says it all, to repeat: The new mail sound in OE6 is broke. Is this a POP3 mail account?
Where you set the WAV file, did you try the preview button (the button to the right of the wav file name)? Does it play OK there? -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Sandy" wrote in message oups.com... In OE General, Sandy reports Trend Micro Anti-Spam plug-in was the culprit:

It is a POP 3 mail account and yes I can preview the sounds in XP
control panel. As PA Bear mentions I have since found that Trend Micro Anit-Spam filter is the culprirt, as soon as I uninstall it the sound returns and on re-install it dissapears again. Now I know the cause, trying to find a solution, I don't want to remove the anti-spam filter as it works really well, it is a beta version so I have emailed the support team to see if they will fix the bug. Here is what Trend Micro support have to say about this known issue:
This is a known issue of TMAS v3.52 which is listed in Readme file as item 7.17. The 3rd party module inside TMAS would influence the function of sound notification. Please see the description below. 7.17 Notification features may not work successfully with Trend Micro Anti-Spam installed. ================================================== =================== The notification icon for new messages in the status bar and "Play sound when new messages arrive" features of Outlook Express may not work successfully with Trend Micro Anti-Spam installed. We apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused you. Guess I just need to do without the sound notification until they get there sh!t sorted! Sandy www.sandydoull.com |

You can use the evaluation version of OETune. See www.oehelp.com/OETune/
That should still work. steve "Sandy" wrote in message oups.com...
