When I try to open some attachments on emails, I get the following error
message: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel." However, when I go to the Folder Options in the control panel, the file association is already there. Dell Dimension 4100, Pentium III, 996 MHz ; 512K ram; Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002, SP2 |

The existing file association may be lacking an option for "Open." You

Thank you for your response. I read the link, checked the file attachments
and the file associations. Everything seems to be in order but I still can not open the attachment. I saved the attachment to my desktop and it will open from there so there is a file association set. Any other suggestions. What is the extension of the file type? Did you specifically check in the
file association that there was an "Open" action for that type file? If you are using XP/SP2, see the following for some info on how Attachment Manager works: Description of how the Attachment Manager works in Windows XP Service Pack 2: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=883260 -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. The extension of the file type is "jpg" and yes, I specifically checked in
the file association and it says "Opens with Kodak EasyShare Software". I have even gone into the advanced and browsed to the exe file for the Kodak EasyShare Software and I am still getting the same error message when I try to open the attachment. I did go the article you referenced but must say it is a little over my head--I didn't understand anything in there that I could do to solve my problem. I would try resetting the association. Find any jpg file and right click,
selecting "Open With" vs. "Open" and then scroll through the list of programs to select Internet Explorer and click the "Always use this program" and see if it helps. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. Right-click on JPG file already saved to your hard-drive Open with
Choose program Select Internet Explorer (instead of Kodak EasyShare; you can change it back later if you want) & check the "Always open with..." box OK your way out. Does the JPG attachment open now (in IE)? Less likely: Registry corruption (http://www.oehelp.com/noimg.aspx). -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Shell/User, Security), Aumha.org VSOP, DTS-L.org cranberry wrote: The extension of the file type is "jpg" and yes, I specifically checked in the file association and it says "Opens with Kodak EasyShare Software". See the Identifying Attachment File Types and Setting File Associations
section of Decoding Internet Attachments - A Tutorial http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_san...e.htm#identify At the end of the section is a reference for a FileExt program. Get the program, run it for the JPG file extension and attach the resulting file or e-mail it to me. From that we may be able to figure out exactly what needs to be fixed. OE is very fussy on the file associations. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "cranberry" wrote in message ... jpg attachments--at least, that is the one that is giving me problems right
now--I don't know what the other extensions might have been when I have gotten the same error message--I usually just didn't even try any more but now am wanting to figure this out. Thank you.
