I am running Outlook Express SP1 on Windows XP SP1. For the past two or three
weeks, attachments have taken forever to download from my OP 3 mailbox into Outlook Express. 1 megabyte typically takes an hour. I am on a LAN that otherwise is quite fast - file downloads through Internet Explorer go very quickly. The problem is not the email server (hosted at Earthlink) or the ISP. Attachments download just fine from the same mailbox to a different computer running OE6 SP1. I believe that something has happened to OE 6 itself. I have tried everything I can think of. This includes compacting existing messages; moving all existing messages to different folders and recreating the Inbox and Sent Items folders; creating a new identity (with and without importing existing messages) and reinstalling OE 6 using the registry editing trick that appears in the MS Knowledge Base. Nothing works. Can anyone think of an alternative other than reformatting the C drive? Thanks in advance. Modelesq |

If you are running an Anti-spam program or an Anti-virus set to scan
e-mail as it downloads, either of those could be the source of your problem. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "modelesq" wrote in message ... Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It provides no
additional protection, it's the most likely cause of the problem, and even Symantec says it's not necessary: paste Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have the most recent virus definitions. /paste http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...02111812533106 -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Shell/User, Security), Aumha.org VSOP, DTS-L.org modelesq wrote: I am running Outlook Express SP1 on Windows XP SP1. Thanks for the advice, but I have already disabled email scanning in Norton
Antivirus. Any other advice? Thanks modelesq "modelesq" wrote: I am running Outlook Express SP1 on Windows XP SP1.
