Default Distribution lists

I there a limit on the number of addresses you can add to a distribution
list. The reason I ask is that Outlook 6 recently crashed on several
occasions until I split the list into two.

I also note that on opening Outloook 6 the Messenger icon appears on the
taskbar and cannot be closed whilst Outlook is open, saying it is being used
by Outlook. I do not use Messenger and have it disabled in startup. Thought
it might have a bearing on the distribution list problem.
