Am I right in thinking, that after nearly 5 years, Microsoft still haven't
released a fix for the problem whereby Outlook Express 6 doesn't remember the password properly for mail or news accounts? The problem is detailed in KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290684/en-us. Every time I do an install (whichever XP Pro CD I use), I have to waste time editing the registry as detailed in the fix. Tonight, I've just rebuilt my laptop again. I then applied every available fix via Windows Update before configuring mail and news and hitting the problem again. Why haven't MS issued a fix for this that can be applied via Windows Update just after installing XP? Or am I missing something here? Cheers, Fred. |

There are bugs in Outlook Express that have persisted in every version since
OE4. Since OE is no longer supported at Microsoft, I doubt you can ever anticipate any future changes to the existing behaviour. Sorry. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 "Fred Finisterre" wrote in message ... On return to this newsgroup after a long absence through illness from
computer, just horrified to read OE no longer supported at Microsoft. Should I be changing to Outlook or what? & would that involve a great deal of re-learning for this ageing 'silver surfer', using Windows XP home edition? "Jim Pickering" wrote in message ... I think you misread Jim's message. OE is still part of Windows, its just
not supported for Win98 any longer. The next version of OE is Windows Mail in Vista, but OE still exists in the earlier OSs. steve "squibs" wrote in message ... No need to panic, not supported does not mean "dead", it means that MS are developing a new Operating System to take over from XP, called Windows Vista, that has a new mail client called Windows Mail, very similar to OE, it is available for testing http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvist...y/default.mspx Do not install on your main machine!! Windows updates will still offer security patches but possibly no bug fixes for OE? -- Regards Steve. MS-MVP. OE. [DTS] |
