Default Confirm reason for this malfunction, please.

This morning, every time OE went through its normal cycle of checking for
mail and newsgroup messages, it would crash. I noticed that just one NG
title was turning red, meaning a watched thread had updated. I went offline,
which stopped the update cycle and kept OE running. But, when I clicked on
that NG, OE crashed again. So, I restarted, and unsubscribed from that NG.
Problem gone. All my subscribed groups are text, not binary, by the way.

Does this sound like a corrupted folders.dbx file?

It could be folders.dbx, but before going there, you may have a damaged
identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it.
If all is well, you can import your messages from the old identity and
delete it.

Default Confirm reason for this malfunction, please.

Start he http://www.insideoe.com/problems/errors.htm#crash

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm.

- Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if
Automatic Compacting is taking place (WinXP SP2 only).

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.
