Did you close OE and then see the prompt to compact? And if so, did you
check OK and let it compact, or did you open OE and do it manually? If you
used the Compact Prompt, you should not see that for another 100 closings,
but manually, you will see it again.

Post back and elaborate, because there is a fix if you did it manually.

Noel,

Was this *ever* at Windows Updates? I never saw it there. Just picked it up
from Kristen in the Pvt. newsgroup.

AFAIK, It is only at the download center. ( Patch KB918651:
http://tinyurl.com/mx3r2 ). See my latest reply to MargM. It's a two part
process.

Bruce

This dialog box come up when I close OE to do something
else . . This computer is over 2 years old and this
compacting message use to come up occasionally which is
understandable but in the past few weeks its happening
alot
If I click no to compacting more than about 6 times
.............. The send /receive icon wont work and have
to re boot . Its being a pesky machine !

Thanks

Bye

You may not have this patch, and be sure to see the link at the bottom. It
is a two part fix.

Patch KB918651:
http://tinyurl.com/mx3r2

This patch addresses some of the issues that were caused by KB911567.

Address Book problems.
Unsent templates appearing as sent.
Manually compacting will now reset the registry counter to Zero in
WinXP/SP2.

See this link for more important information about editing the registry to
complete the process:

Hi again Bruce
I downloaded and installed this. Tried opening and
closing OE and this pesky dialog box still kept appearing
.. So I thought I try compacting manually........ Seems to
have fixed the problem

I would be very wary about editing the registry . Looks
like this step wont be necessary anyway ( fingers
crossed )

Many thanks for your help
