Hi,

Local folders and rules can be created for incoming messages but what abt
a
folder like sent items where all sent messages are automatically saved?

Do we have to move them manually from the sent item folder on daily basis?

Pls guide.

Akshay.

It will depend on how you wish to sort your sent mail? By year Sent 2004,
Sent 2006 etc or To Work, To Joan? Create folders and rules then apply them
manually on a regular basis.

Set them in the same way that you do for incoming, where the to line
containsmove it to specified folder, except that you now have to then
select the rule'Apply now'browse to sent itemsapply now.
Do it how ever often suits you.
Name the folders and group them in the folder tree ie Jim In & Jim Out
folders.
HTH?

Hi,

How to apply a rule manually on the sent items folder?

I cannot run an automatic rule there, am i correct?

So i have to copy mails to another folder from the sent items system folder
regularly, Am i correct?

Is there some other way - please inform.

Also does this apply to all mails clients like Eudora? MS Outlook? etc or
just for Outlook Express?

Do all email clients should have minimum local folders of under 100MB and
should avoid mails in the local default folders as it might corrupt the mails
and data within?

Try to explain.

Akshay.

If you want to use OE, that's what you've got to do. Selecting all the
sent items and moving them isn't exactly a large chore.

Hi,

So then is MS Outlook a better option than Outlook express? Can Outlook
accept more emails than OE?

Are corruption chances lesser with Ms Outlook than OE?

Akshay.

I don't know, but how would you ever find anything in a folder that large?

Are corruption chances lesser with Ms Outlook than OE?

I think so.

I have no idea. I don't care for Outlook so I don't use it for email.

In my experience, 8,000 to 10,0000 messages are way too many for Outlook
to handle gracefully. Having a large number of message in a folder,
especially in the Inbox, can slow operations greatly.

I use Outlook at work because I must, and OE at home, by choice. I've
never experienced data corruption with either, so I can't say anything
about the relative chances.

OE has its limitations. The really big limitation is no dbx file can exceed
2 gigabytes and when you reach that, the file gets corrupt and unreadable
and no messages can be recovered without a 3rd party extraction program.
But the problems can occur even before you get close to that size. OE in
its current manifestation was written in 1997, and no one imagined the huge
volume of emails and attachments that can bloat the message store, so when
it gets really big in a folder, that folder can easily become corrupted (one
byte change in the file can make it completely unreadable by OE).

So the guidline of 100 megs per folder began as my recommendation from
experience with testing large folders, and at that size you are likely to
have no problems. But above that size (very roughly), once can see
sluggishness of performance and an apparent greater tendency towards
corruption. So its better to parse the messages into smaller size folders.

That said, my sent items is currently 211 megs (yeah, I need to archive it
and start with an empty one), but I also backup with triple redundancy
almost daily with a single button click using OETool and OEQB (both free see
www.oehelp.com/OETool/). I also redundantly download all my mail on another
machine.

The other factors that contribute to the lack of stability of the message
store are compaction problems, which are reduced in newly released patches
(see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2) and interference from other programs such
as antivirus and antispam software that was not properly tested with OE and
is known to cause problems in functionality as well as massive message loss
(see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3).

So if you want huge folder sizes, then #1 backup frequently (which you
should do anyway to prepare for when the hard drive fails) and #2 get rid of
any 3rd party software that could interfere with OE. That should also save
you the cost of DBXpress. G

Hope that helps explain things a bit more.
