Default I am having compatibility issues with Gateway notebook

I downloaded netscape browser to this lap top & it worked okay for several
weeks. The past week, the upper left symbols would get frozen & the computer
would not work. I deleted the netscape & tried using Internet Explorer but
it still did not work. Then I installed the Beta 7 version of IE & that
worked for about 3 days. Then the compatibility issues began again. The
"middle" icon for the square becomes gray & the computer freezes. How can I
fix this problem?
